October at Lewis Family Playhouse: A Busy Month of Comedy, Movies and Music
Lewis Family Playhouse packs October with Cheech Marin, Petty Party, Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein and Piff the Magic Dragon.
If your October calendar needs a night out, Lewis Family Playhouse is making the decision pleasantly difficult. The Rancho Cucamonga venue has stacked the month with a speaker event, tribute music, an outdoor movie, musical theater and comedy-magic.
The run begins October 1 with Cheech Marin discussing a career that spans comedy, film and Chicano art collecting. One night later, Petty Party celebrates the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, giving the opening weekend two very different flavors.
The official playhouse calendar then shifts into movie mode on October 9 with Spaceballs, screened at 8 p.m. in the Bank of America Imagination Courtyard.
That screening is more than a random cult-classic selection. It leads directly into the playhouse production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, which opens October 16 and continues through October 25 with multiple performances.
Young Frankenstein is particularly well timed for the second half of October: theatrical, goofy, spooky without being grim, and familiar enough that even people who do not regularly buy musical-theater tickets may be tempted.
The month closes on October 30 with Piff the Magic Dragon, whose act combines magic and comedy with an intentionally absurd stage persona. It is the sort of booking that fits neatly into Halloween weekend without requiring another haunted attraction. |

Then, on November 1, the venue carries the cultural calendar into Día de los Muertos with Eternamente, extending the run of seasonal programming beyond Halloween itself.
What makes this month notable is the range. A household could realistically choose between a cultural conversation, nostalgic rock, a Mel Brooks movie, a full musical or a magic show without leaving the same Victoria Gardens cultural complex.
That variety also makes the playhouse useful for date-night planning. Dinner at Victoria Gardens followed by a show requires almost no logistical creativity, and the walkable setting removes the usual second round of parking and driving.
The best local venues become habits, not special occasions. A crowded calendar like this encourages residents to check what is playing before automatically looking toward Los Angeles or Orange County for entertainment.
Ticket availability and showtimes can change, so the playhouse’s own box office and website are the safest places to confirm details. The venue specifically advises patrons to buy through its official channels rather than third-party ticket sellers.
October is a good month to rediscover the Lewis Family Playhouse. Pick the event that matches your mood—or use the lineup as an excuse to try something you normally would not—and the drive home will still be measured in Rancho Cucamonga minutes. |
